(By KEN BELSON, New York Times) With regular gas in New York City at $4.40 a gallon, station managers are rummaging through their storage closets in search of extra 4s to display on their pumps, and many are coming up short.
Here you will find a repository of interesting articles and my (perhaps less interesting) musings about technology, design, invention, and all things related.
My father was an inventor -- a "tinkerer," if you will -- and his interest in problem solving through creativity definitely resides in me. When someone asks me what I would do with my life if I was independently wealthy, I envision myself in a backyard garage, bringing my ideas to life. But I don't just want to make things, I want to make the world a better place.
Technology is changing our world at an exponential pace. Life has become pretty easy when you compare it to our ancestors. The future is so promising, but the prospect of it also gives me a deep sense of dread. Perhaps this blog will be a good way way for me to explore that dread. Will I become an optimist about technology? Place your bets.
I am also drawn to great design, be it industrial, graphic, intelligent, or biological. So you are also likely to discover posts that explore beauty and function, even if it has nothing to do with technology and invention.
While these are my general guidelines for now, I'm going to keep things fluid, and I will change them at my whim. There will likely be a lot of posts here that were not written by me, so please note the citations, and be careful not to improperly credit me for the great article, photograph, etc., that you saw. I sincerely hope you find this blog interesting and enlightening. Welcome.
